Like his annual bird, the annual egg embodies designer Oiva Toikka’s boundless creativity, his passion for blown glass art and the rich glassmaking traditions of the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland. Each art object is individually handmade and mouthblown in Finland. Similar to the annual bird, the annual egg is made of radiant amethyst colour that transforms from blue to vibrant purple depending on the light. Every bird and its egg are unique art objects. An elegant home decoration that makes a precious gift. Limited for 2021 or as long as stocks last.
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the great personas of Finnish glass design. His imaginative, rich and bold glass art is a departure from mainstream Nordic design. Toikka’s individual style is also evident in the utility objects he creates as they often deviate from the traditional clean-lined puritanism of Finnish design aesthetics. In addition to glass, his artistic activities cover staging, fashion design and plastic interior design elements.
