Iittala Virva

Lamp 250x255mm dark grey

Dark grey

Iittala’s ambient light collection expands with the stunning new Virva lamp by Swedish designer Matti Klenell. The mouthblown glass table lamp stands on a four-legged metal base. The distinct shape is rectangular with rounded edges. The delicate glass has an embossed surface and raised, abstract pattern. A powder coated aluminum base enhances the airy, light design of the lamp. Virva has no specific direction which makes the lamp a versatile piece that can be placed in different areas throughout any interior: on a table, a windowsill or by the bed. Dark grey beautifully highlights Virva’s three dimensional shape.

Virva

Our ambient light collection has expanded with a new lamp, Virva, designed by Matti Klenell. When designing Virva, Klenell studied Iittala's glass heritage focusing in particular on the patterns and indentations that have decorated our glass pieces throughout the decades.

The name ‘Virva’ originates from the Finnish word virvatuli (will-o'-the-wisp), which in the folklore of the Northern countries has been said to mark the location of buried treasures. The mouthblown glass table lamp stands on a four-legged, powder coated metal base. Its delicate glass has an embossed surface and raised, abstract pattern.

Iittala's designer Matti Klenell

Matti Klenell

Matti Klenell (b.1972) is a Swedish designer known for his continual explorations into the Nordic design philosophy of form and function. Much like craftsmen during the dawn of industrialism, Klenell seeks to obtain the richest artistic expression within the possible limitations of the production process. His goal is to bring his creations to life by giving them character and personality. His global clientele includes BRIO, Moooi and Muuto. His multi-faceted approach to design allows him to work within many platforms including one-man exhibitions of his art glassware. Klenell has received much recognition for his work including the Red Dot Design Award for the Lempi drinking glass that he created for Iittala.

Klenell has designed a range of home products for Iittala with his Lempi, Nappula, Putki and Virva Collections.
