Iittala Birds by Toikka

Reed Warbler 210x130mm pine green

The Birds by Toikka collection combines Oiva Toikka’s deep love for nature with glass art. The Reed Warbler attracts attention with its calm pine green colour and beautiful silver lustre spots that reflect light. The Reed Warbler is made by mouth-blowing at the Iittala glass factory. The glass birds are glassblowers’ masterpieces, and each bird is unique, with its own personality. The pine green Reed Warbler is a modern interpretation of the original pink Reed Warbler and brings a fresh and elegant look to your home. The glass bird is the perfect gift for everyone who wants to add a touch of personality to their home.

Birds by Toikka

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.

Iittala's designer Oiva Toikka

Oiva Toikka

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the great personas of Finnish glass design. His imaginative, rich and bold glass art is a departure from mainstream Nordic design. Toikka’s individual style is also evident in the utility objects he creates as they often deviate from the traditional clean-lined puritanism of Finnish design aesthetics. In addition to glass, his artistic activities cover staging, fashion design and plastic interior design elements.

Toikka has designed a range of home products for Iittala with his Annual Cube, Birds by Toikka, Frutta, Flora, Kastehelmi, Oiva Toikka Collection and Tundra Collections.
