Siimes brings spring to the table

Siimes is a new addition to Taika series with fresh and bright colours.   The designer of the new pattern, as well as the entire Taika series, is Klaus Haapaniemi. Klaus Haapaniemi's distinctive style: mystical and folkloristic patterns that tell stories of animals from the northern forests adorn the topography of Siimes plates and mugs. Deers, wood grouses and hedgehogs bring new characters to the series and the familiar colours of Taika get a new spring-like feel.

In Finnish Siimes means a shade in the midst of a forest and Taika traslates as magic.

“I hope that Taika stirs peoples’ own imaginations and entices them to spin their own stories – I want people to create their own everyday fantasies,” states Klaus Haapaniemi.

Mythical motifs and clean shapes

In 2017 Taika celebrated its 10-year anniversary, and remains today one of the best-loved Iittala series internationally. The shape of Taika items is Aika, designed by professor Heikki Orvola. Haapaniemi's unique style and rich illustrations create an interesting combination with the clean and simplified forms of Orvola.
