Welcome to the Iittala Cup 2017, the international glass blowing competition in the Iittala factory

In 2017, the competition is held for the 20th time to mark the 100th anniversary of Finland. The best glass blowers from Finland and abroad compete each other in the technical skills in the competition in three tasks: widest plate, longest cylinder and biggest ball.

The performance takes a lot of skills, strength and pressure handling, as the tasks are performed in tight time frame and only one try is given per category.  For the competition, the factory floor transforms to an arena where audience can follow the unique craftsmanship skills in this magnitude only once in every two years.

In 2016, Keijo Kopra from the Iittala glass factory won the competition for the fifth time. The second place went to freelancer Kari Alakoski and the third to Risto Nyqvist, also from the Iittala glass factory. Last year's winning trio will be featured in the race this year too in addition to 30 other skilled glass blowers.
