Vase 250mm Rio brown wood mold

Architect Alvar Aalto designed the Aalto collection in 1936. It won gold at the Karhula Iittala glass competition, making them the entry work to the Paris World Fair in 1937. Since then, the vases have become an icon of Scandinavian design, featuring both function and sculpture. Each Aalto vase is created at the Iittala Glass Factory by several master craftspeople. The special 250mm vases are mouthblown to wooden moulds according to an original production method from the 1930s. Using wood on the mould creates a lively surface on the glass and makes the vases unique with crafted charm. The shape of the 250mm vase is an original from the 1930s with an updated size to suit tall flowers, stems and seasonal bouquets. The Rio brown colour is true to the original 1930s Aalto colours.
