Picnic

The designs on the Picnic glass come from the comic strip ”Fuddler’s Courtship”. In the picture Moominmamma is serving food to the family on the beach as they finish their swim. They have just met the Fuddler, who is also offered coffee and cake. The other side of the glass shows Dr Hatter hiding behind a pillar. The doctor is a psychiatrist who has moved to Moomin Valley and is trying to improve the Fuddler’s poor self-esteem.

Jungle life

On this glass the jungle surrounding the Moomins’ house has started forcing its way inside and Moominmamma is now able to pick exotic fruit indoors. A Hemulen botanist has arrived at Moomin House to study carnivorous plants and all the other fascinating new species. On the other side of the glass, as a storm approaches, Little My urges Moomintroll and the Snork Maiden to run to a cave for shelter.

A whole jungle really does grow around Moomin House in the space of a single night. The previous day, Little My found a box of tropical seeds floating in the sea. Moominmamma plants them here and there around the garden. A heat wave is followed by a severe thunderstorm with torrential rain, the seeds germinate and the jungle appears overnight.

Club Life

Iittala’s Club Life glass features Moominpappa, his childhood friend Wimsy and a third unidentified gentleman. There are lots of different clubs in Moomin Valley. Moominpappa’s club for rebel fathers, Knights of the Catapult, the Fillyjonk’s gossipy sewing club and Stinky’s questionable activities which involve hiding stolen goods in the cellar of Moomin House.
In the action-packed design on Iittala’s Moomin glass, a dog has managed to steal Moominmamma’s handbag, which Stinky then succeeds in retrieving. Club Life in Moominvalley is certainly eventful!

Falling in love

Moomintroll rescues a circus leading lady and her flowery horse from a flood in Moominvalley and they end up warming up in front of the fire with their small friend Shadow who follows them everywhere, as depicted in the design for Iittala’s Moomin glass.
On the other side of the Falling in Love glass, acrobat Emeraldo tries to entertain the leading lady, La Goona, or the vamp, as she is called by a jealous Snorkmaiden. Moomintroll explains to the Snorkmaiden that it isn’t La Goona’s fault that she has beauty and temperament. The glass’s tale is a roller-coaster drama of jealousy, finally culminating in a theatrical reconciliation.

The Golden Tail

On Iittala’s Golden Tail Moomin tumbler, the Fillyjonk and the Snorkmaiden are going to the Duchess’ cocktail party in Moomin family style. This hectic social life all started with Moomintroll’s bald tail, whose tip turned golden thanks to Moominmamma’s magic potion. Before this Moomintroll naturally underwent an x-ray, an experience he thought was far too personal. He didn’t want anyone looking at his insides. The pictures showed that he was suffering from pernicious naïveté and acute chronic idealism.
On the Moomin glass, a golden-tailed Moomintroll gives an interview to one of the many reporters eager to know more about his golden tail. Gradually, the fame, the fan mail and the giving of autographs start to take their toll on Moomintroll who no longer has time to do the things he would like to do – such as going fishing with Snufkin.

Moomin and the Martians

On the Moomin and the Martians glass, the Fillyjonk and her children are scared, as are the neighbouring ladies, by a flying saucer that lands in the Moomins’ garden. On the ship a machine is found which turns them invisible, makes them fly and finally shrinks Moomintroll and Moominmamma to doll size. On the other side of the glass a tiny Moominmamma is looking in her bag for a handkerchief to use as an apron.
Behind all this is a Martian child who has borrowed the flying saucer without asking. The little Martian soon gets homesick, however, and at the end of the story, the Martian parents appear in Moominvalley in another flying saucer and all three of them return home to Mars. Much to everyone’s relief they are able to turn Moominmamma and Moomintroll back to their normal size before they leave.
