Iittala Alvar Aalto Collection
Vase 160mm recycled edition
Available 16th of August.
In the decades since premiering at the 1937 Paris World Fair, design legend Alvar Aalto’s flowing wave (“aalto” in Finnish) shape has become a timeless symbol of Nordic design. Iittala takes the legendary vase to another level with the recycled edition Aalto vase. The vase is made of 100% recycled glass produced entirely from waste glass at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland. Each unique glass vase is first mouthblown, then hand cut before going through several polishings at the Iittala Glass Factory. Mixed coloured glass results in a beautiful variation of blues and greens. The wider size is perfect for full flower arrangements. A beautiful decorative item that makes a lasting gift.

In 1936, Alvar Aalto’s series of glass vases won first prize in the 1936 Karhula-Iittala Glass Design Competition. Compared to the decorative objects of the time, the simple yet organic shape of this vase was a revolutionary statement. Inspired by waves (“aalto” in Finnish) in the water, the vase is a symbol of Finnish design and one of the most famous glass objects in the world.
Each and every vase in the Alvar Aalto Collection continues to be mouth blown at the Iittala factory and comes in a wide range of colors and sizes. The Collection is a staple of modern Scandinavian design and Iittala’s most iconic series. Additional items inspired by Aalto and created by Pentagon Design such as steel bowls, wooden platters and votives can also be found in the Alvar Aalto Collection.
