The Putki lamp, originally designed by Matti Klenell for the reopening of Sweden's Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, is now available in an elegant white glass shade. Designer Matti Klenell was appointed as Creative Director in the renovation of the Restaurant & Café at the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm. In the extensive project, over 21 companies cooperated in creating more than 80 new products. Iittala Glass Factory partnered in the project with its unique, handmade Putki lamps. The massive glass lamps were placed in the oversized windows of the museum’s restaurant.

Iittala scaled the Putki lamp for a new collection created by Matti Klenell that features an impressively sized mouthblown glass lantern in three complementary colours: clear, copper and grey. The vertical lines and clean shape create simple sophistication in any interior while the soft glow from the Putki lamp brings calm.

Iittala's designer Matti Klenell

Matti Klenell

Matti Klenell (b.1972) is a Swedish designer known for his continual explorations into the Nordic design philosophy of form and function. Much like craftsmen during the dawn of industrialism, Klenell seeks to obtain the richest artistic expression within the possible limitations of the production process. His goal is to bring his creations to life by giving them character and personality. His global clientele includes BRIO, Moooi and Muuto. His multi-faceted approach to design allows him to work within many platforms including one-man exhibitions of his art glassware. Klenell has received much recognition for his work including the Red Dot Design Award for the Lempi drinking glass that he created for Iittala.

Klenell has designed a range of home products for Iittala with his Lempi, Nappula, Putki and Virva Collections.
