The Design Lab Gallery features changing exhibitions and also serves as a venue for events and workshops. The exhibitions at the gallery are typically inspired by the designers of Iittala and Arabia, materials or current trends and phenomena in art and design. The exhibitions often include a short film related to their theme. The gallery has free admission.
Design Museum Arabia combines masterpieces of Finnish ceramic and glass art in a single exhibition. The centerpiece is a timeline consisting of Arabia coffee cups and Iittala glasses, which showcases four products from each decade. The exhibition also features iconic works by legendary designers such as Alvar and Aino Aalto, Kaj Franck, Timo Sarpaneva, Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala. The artifacts at the museum are from the Design Museum’s collections. The museum has free admission.
During guided tours, you will hear stories about artists and the creation of works. A tour includes an introduction to the collections of the Museum and the current exhibition at the Gallery. It also includes a visit to the facilities of the Arabia Art Department Association. A tour lasts for around 60 minutes. Tours are available on weekdays and must be booked in advance.
The Iittala & Arabia Design Centre Store offers the full range of interior decoration and table setting products by Iittala and Arabia. The store also has a selection of kitchen tools and cookware by Fiskars. Gift wrapping is available, in addition to engraving and tax-free services.
