The Birds by Toikka collection consists of hundreds of birds made since the first Flycatchers that Oiva Toikka created in 1972. The collection is an ensemble of more natural kinds of birds, and then some that are straight from Toikka's imagination. Over the years, Toikka's owls have become precious pieces in the collection. Their lively personality comes across in their large eyes and cartoonlike character.

The new Snowy Owl is no different from its fellow owls. Native to the Northern Lapland, the Snowy Owl has a white body with beautiful decorative flakes. Limited and numbered 2023 piece edition.

Birds by Toikka

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.

Iittala's designer Oiva Toikka

Oiva Toikka

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the great personas of Finnish glass design. His imaginative, rich and bold glass art is a departure from mainstream Nordic design. Toikka’s individual style is also evident in the utility objects he creates as they often deviate from the traditional clean-lined puritanism of Finnish design aesthetics. In addition to glass, his artistic activities cover staging, fashion design and plastic interior design elements.

Toikka has designed a range of home products for Iittala with his Annual Cube, Birds by Toikka, Frutta, Flora, Kastehelmi, Oiva Toikka Collection and Tundra Collections.
